About this webinar

Operational energy consumption has been a focus of the sustainable design movement since its mainstream adoption. The construction industry has made significant improvements building operational efficiency; however, more progress must still be made in both new construction and upgrading the existing building cadastre to achieve the carbon emission reductions required to keep global heating to 1.5°C, per the latest IPCC report. This seminar will cover the building operational energy goals necessary to further reduce built environment-related emissions, as well as design phase strategies to achieve these reductions.

Hosted by Taleen Josefsson

Taleen is a Brooklyn-based architect and Passive House Consultant based in Brooklyn who applies a holistic approach to tackling the complex environmental and social issues relating to the built environment. She is devoted to promoting healthy, low-energy architectural solutions that strengthen local communities, economies, and biodiversity. Taleen's work includes research and analysis on building material reuse as a method for reducing our industry’s negative environmental impact, with a proposed circular working method of “Form Follows Availability." She is also an active volunteer in the Architects Climate Action Network and enjoys sharing the latest in sustainability and architectural research via her Instagram: @the_holistic_architect.

Upon completion, you'll be able to:

  1. Understand the built environment operational energy goals for existing and new building stock required to remain with 1.5°C global heating.
  2. Explain the benefits of improved building efficiency to colleagues and clients.
  3. Identify passive house principles.
  4. Apply design phase solutions to improve building operational efficiency.
